Here are the slides and demo from my recent presentation on using JavaScript exclusively for developing web applications. When you checkout the demo, make sure to watch the code develop as it transitions from stage_1 through stage_4 (which are branches of the repo).

JavaScript is in a unique position because, since it is the only language running in the browser, it is also the only language we can leverage in all domains and contexts of web development:1

  • Server-side with Narwhal (and Bogart)
  • Client-side within the browser
  • As a query language with CouchDB
  1. Arguably, using a Common Lisp / ParenScript / Css-Lite stack will offer similar benefits, but I wouldn't include Google Web Toolkit, Pyjamas and other JS code generators in the same category.
